Today, we’re proud to highlight the journey of Esteban Ortega Loria , one of our outstanding colleagues who joined us as a Payroll Analyst in December 2022 and has since risen to become a Finance Operations Team Lead — all through hard work, adaptability, and a passion for learning. Here’s his story in his own words: "When I joined Sysco in December 2022 as a Payroll Analyst, I supported six U.S. warehouse sites — navigating different payroll cycles and gaining a firsthand look at how a global leader in foodservice runs its operations at the ground level. It was fast-paced, dynamic, and gave me the solid foundation I needed to understand how people and processes drive performance. Just eight months later, I took on a completely new challenge as a Financial Planning Analyst for the GSC in Costa Rica. In that role, I became the finance lead for our Costa Rica operations — overseeing the full financial picture, from accounts payable and procurement to long-range planning and benefit cost management. This leap pushed me to grow fast, build cross-functional knowledge, and make strategic decisions for our local operation. In April 2025, I stepped into my current role as Finance Operations Team Lead, leading a talented team of 10 analysts across multiple financial functions within the U.S., including AP and UCP. Transitioning from a single-country focus to U.S.-wide operations was both exciting and challenging, and I’m grateful for the support from my managers and team during this learning curve. One of the most rewarding parts of this role has been deepening my global financial knowledge and growing as a people leader — empowering others, driving accountability, and fostering innovation. Beyond my core role, I’m proud to lead SPECTRUM, Sysco’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group in Costa Rica, and to have served on the board of ASEMAYCA, our employee association — spaces where I can contribute to inclusivity and celebrate diversity.
